Interactive Science | Electricity- Watts, Wire, And Watt It Costs
| How well do you suppose your students understand Watts? Sure, they notice the Wattage labels on devices, but that by itself doesn’t mean they understand them, or how they factor into an electric bill. That’s what this lessons intends to clear up. In it, they will compare the Wattages of different devices, learn how to wire a home (on paper, at least), and then calculate the annual cost of several devices around their home.
This lesson will create an awakening experience for every student. They’ve been told over and over to turn off the lights. But they don’t care because they don’t see the importance. In this activity it’s their light, and their families’ light bill we’re now talking about, so it means something.

The Best
It’s stunning when students realize this, but teachers are real people. When they spot us shopping or driving around town, they stare in bewilderment because teachers are never supposed to be anywhere but at school.
As wrong as that perception is, they’re still right about something- being a teacher carries over into every other part of our lives, just as every other part of our lives affects us as teachers. What books are you reading? Or are you reading anything at all? If you’re not reading one challenging non-fiction book a month then you’re not doing the very thing that we as educators stress is so important to our students. If reading a book seems too boring, then you’re reading the wrong thing because a good book is hard to put down. If you need a start, check out the book list on our
The Best page. Those will lead to others. Each book will teach you something valuable, and soon you’ll see growth and improvement in your life.
